That is pretty much it.
Since the start of the forking debate, some people felt it was exactly like stealing the user base. Because for good or evil, *this* is CPR forum. So forking to another (be it the sprawl or cyberpunked or whatevs) and expecting people just to pour over there, was seen as a kinda bad move.

But this last event kind of shown that it really is necessary to have some sort of control over these things.

Now, I don't expect much to change, more like a template change if anything. But who knows, moves are weird like that

but isn't holding a vote dividing the community? You didn't ask for a vote to have a backup forum that we can use, so why should seph have one? I mean everyone seems to want to go to it anyway, why waste time with a vote? Unless she needs to convince herself that she isn't stealing a userbase.

But zaddy, the idea of having this forum was for if cpr ever goes down, I think the vote was to determine if the populace wanted to just go to another forum all together as opposed to having a backup forum. I, for one, think it was just a rash decision out of fear and ignorance. Now that we have CPR back (the day afer i told seph off in irc Smile ) there is no need to actually move everyone over to a whole new place to hang out. Sure we can have a backup place to check if cpr goes down, so that the community won't be in the dark if they don't use IRC... but even having a frequent site owner present doesn't mean we won't ever have a similar site downtime problem. I mean how many times have we lost CPR? how great is the actual risk of losing the information? compare that to how many people frequent cpr main page then visit the forums, and how many projected losses CPR will receive if the forums are inactive and the main page updates are as frequent as they are.

It’s easy enough to make a quick backup BBS somewhere. I think the issue is we’d need an external news source if the site goes down, like a facebook group page, Twitter account or some half dead blog somewhere. Something like that, yet you don’t have to join to comment on.

When i started this topic, i got contacted by 3 persons by my facebook page.

Zaida, Fred Kerdraon and another person.

I also think that its best NOT to make another forum, but just to have some members or SFAM himselve to have a backup.

maybe we can indeed make a facebook group, to re-direct everybody when the shit hits the fan.

When CPR dies forever, we then would be able to resurect it , by using the lastest backup. We could then talk about who hosts the website, etc.etc. but thats future talk.

Thats better as to have 2 difrent forums at the same time. Two forums would / can divide the little "scene" of cyberpunks that are regulars / visitors on CPR.

Anyhow, i am happy that CPR is online again. Sometimes i am afraight that new rulers / policitians ban this terrefic , cool, website and its forum. Ya never know with Sarah Palin, European UNion new laws, etc.
