the advances in robotics and computers these days are staggering and people are becoming more and more dependant on computers and the internet than ever before with computers providing a means that allows us the convenience and speed to be able to do something that would have normally taken alot longer sometimes things we wern't able to do at all.

Soldiers have been given robtic prothesis already which according to Sgt. Juan Arredondo is As good as the real thing.

Some scientists believe that the merging of man and machine is possible and is predicted for as close as 2045.

Science fiction has shown us some of the possibilities for intergrating 'wetware' into our being implants could allow for to name a few direct interface with computers removing hands from the equasion all togeather, monitoring and changing moods at will, improvment in reaction times, allowing greater stamina and the ability to remember (or forget) whatever we wish flawlessley.

But implants and the merging of machines does blur a line that seperates us from our creations. Some believe the human body to be holy and a temple and not for us to play god by upgrading. Others believe we are held back by it. Our limitations are in our solely flesh vessels.

What're your views and what choice would you make? Would someone be cast out if they were part machine? Those who have robitic arms arn't at this stage but at what point does someone go from Man to Machine. What point do they cease to be human.

Where's the "Adrienne Barbeau Bot" option? Can I have chainsaws for hands? VROOOM VROOOM Laughing

I voted 100% human; not that I'm afraid of technology, I just don't think man / machine interface should require an implant. Cool

Personally I'd love to be part electronic. Some optical implants and other augmentations. Not so much for computer interface such as upgrades to make me faster, stronger etc etc.. Ideally I'd be happy with a termiantor scenario.. nieh on invincible but with a human appearance etc.

I wouldn't want to be connected to the net directly I don't think as the idea of being hacked doesn't appeal to me. Appleseed 2 much?

Don't think I would go as far as the Stross line and say "Computer upload! I would rather have a firewall!" but I also don't want to be hacked.

Voted for a few implants.

my simple soluition to prevent being 'hacked'' while still being connected to the Net.

Dump all download into a database. only use the database as you like. Your mind is behind a firewall/rom-like protection that cant be hacked by the internetz.

So, no probs. Only probs is that when some bad people put weird shit in your download database, that you can get funny ideas about dinos and demons or talking statues,etc...

i know, i know, happens to me all the time, and i never sleep, always am in a lucid dream state when i rest on my bed, but i never sleep. i learn in my dreams new languages (russian , spanish){,m also repairing hardware like cd-players, laptops, etc. now i am trying to learn to repair my GFs car by using lucid dreams.

wonder if it works. Until know, the laptop part works 100% perfect.

Strange Budah comes in my dreams, tells me how to repair some exotic unknown old laptop, and i wake up, do it, and voilas, laptop = repaired.

No manual found on the net, only in my dreams.

CyberBuddah. Digital Zen... whatever. its funny and it comes in handy to learn while dreaming.

Also very important: I remember all my dreams, even the dreams i had for 30 years ago. Very important, because if you forget all the things you learn in your dreams, then its no use , because you forgot what you learned.

As i remember it all, i can use my new found knowledge very well...

amazing.....

I voted for being a brain in a robotic body. My existing body is fully functional and I have no crippling diseases, and so am not really a prime candidate for this sort of transfer. That said, I suffer from near-daily migraines which makes doing just about anything a real pain in the ass. That, and being free from such daily drudgeries as needing to eat, sleep, bathe and so forth would be quite wonderful. It depends on what the upkeep fees would be like though, and what sort of work would even be available for a cyborg of this type. Would we even have to work?

Oh, puhleeese.

You people worry too much about hackers.

Funny thing, I'm venturing a wild guess and I'd put 5 pesos that at least 50% of the people in this forum already have spyware/malware/worms in their computards and they don't know about it.

OTOH, Imagine how drugs would FEEL when your whole mind is binary. Must be pretty awesome!

PS: I'd gladly give up my mortal vessel in exchange for existing inside the limitless net.

Zaida, sorry to tell, but drugs that affect humans , do not affect DIGITAL lifeforms... as we all know, okay, there might be digital simulated drug like experience software, but calling those software .... drugs... depends on what you consider a drug.... interesting....

AI or cyborgs and humanoids addicted to digital drug softwarez..... hahaha...

venture into the cyberspace world of 2010 and beyond....

maybe an idea to include in a new cyberpunk novel for some of the writers on this forum ?

I voted:
"I'd like to get soemthing along with some implants that lets my mind interface directly with my computer."

It has just always been my dream to be able to connect with my computer. So bring on the implants and cyberparts!

Zaida, digital drugs are like those legal herbal kighs, they just won't make the nut compared to the real thing Wink

I'd like a little augmentation of the eyes and ears but I'm not keen on being hooked into a computer unless there's a guarantee my brain won't get hacked. It might not be perfect but it's the only brain I've got (not counting the two in my fridge) and I'm kinda happy with it...

I really don't mind about being hacked.
I mean, I assume that I will retain my current personality, and that I'll be able to "go offline" and not die (like sleeping?).

I guess there would be a physical part to my self, but it would be in a lower level of existance, meaning that my consciousness > my body, unlike the current arrangement. I.e. shot my head => Dead, game over.

If I existed in a machine, and there was a Zaddybackup, then shot the machine => reinstall, and I'm good to go.

Of course, there would probably be some limits as to how to "reproduce" in this environment, i.e., I can't just FTP a copy of me to another computer. I expect the first few versions, at least, to be much more hardware dependent, more like the old time linux kernels (compiling for an 486 would break in a 386 without a math coprocessor?).

Eventually, if I'd so desired, I could be able to hack my phyisical restraints, and figure out a way to make a copy of my current process, my consciousness, so to speak, and run it in a different hardware, provided it's compatible enough (say, windows 95 vs windows me).

One day I might just load a retarded copy of me in another hardware just to have somebody to talk to. And then we would have a fight and my retardedSelf would try, oh so hard, to prove itself worthy.

Then I would pull my retardedSelf to a closed space in the darkest corners of a pretty shoddy corpnet, with some sexy dancing AI receptionists, and would have "the talk".

I'd begin with, "In the beginning there was the command line...

Heh cyberdrugs would be there for sure. I'm sure they'd probably be alot easier to make than their chemical counterparts. If you had brain implants you could program it to make you see whatever you wanted. It'd be kinda like a virus. Messing with your visual and audio.
