Congrats will you be able to attend the festival as well?

Not sure yet… So far I’ve got half a dozen copies out to different fests across the continent and I’m playing the waiting game. I can travel to one or two of them. Will keep y’all posted.

That's quite a rude thing to type (openly, in a forum) when you know the film releaser is a member. Just a pointer. Wink

Actually I think it's kinda a compliment in some ways. As an artist one should appreciate their films being watched.

Especially the case for indy films where people might not have seen them otherwise. Piracy really affords a much wider distrabution than standard means.

And, Wiggett, my point still stands about mentioning torrenting artwork from people who are trying to market their films: Rude.

Well if you put it up for digital download by payment I'll fork out for it.

my point was more about his distribution options, as it's on a dvd I can't buy it here in australia unless he submits it for classification and gets a distributor to sell it. Otherwise I can download it over the internet, but if he puts it on a dvd and doesn't have a download option i can't get it legally. And yes importing dvd's that are unrated here is also a crime, just as buying dvd's that are is still i think...

My point, Kovacs, is to foster the careers (and incomes) of aspiring film-makers by allowing them to market their wares they spend 2-6 years on, usually starving the whole way.

I do realise that torrenting is a great grass-roots method of getting the word out for a released film, but pushing units is where the money comes in (unless your publisher rapes you without lubricant).

Well there are options. Get the initial funding via systems like Kickstarter or Vodo.net. And sell physical objects related to the movie, merchandising it like Lucas has done Star Wars.

Yeah, that’s true. What’s frustrating on my end is that all my other films are available online, for free, in one form or another. So, hey, pay for this one film. Hopefully we’ll get the DVD up before December. Really depends on if we get a distribution deal or have to self-publish again.

Though, I remember the one time I found a torrent of Toronto Cybercide my reaction was ‘whoo, we’re cool enough to be pirated’.

Actually, after the DVD is out I fully plans on taking advantage of sites like www.shapeways.com and sell 3D fabbed miniatures & props, as an experiment.
