Non-human DJ http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/08/denise-non-human-dj/

Seems there is still some back and work needed to be done, but i suspect that more and more of that will be automated over time.

we don't have those here, didn't know they existed. If I saw one that had an lcd screen and a computer system I wouldn't plug it in, if it was just a power transformer plugged into a socket with different connectors, that's a different story.

So PreCrime's almost a thing now:

the Chicago Police Department, for example, created a predictive analytics unit last year.

But Santa Cruz’s method is more sophisticated than most. Based on models for predicting aftershocks from earthquakes, it generates projections about which areas and windows of time are at highest risk for future crimes by analyzing and detecting patterns in years of past crime data. the projections are recalibrated daily, as new crimes occur and updated data is fed into the program.

As i commented elsewhere on this, i wonder how the system will be gamed by police and criminals alike.

Seems like it'd be useless against flash mobs.

Heh, setting off flashmobs using some kind of pseudorandom location and time of day could result in a whole lot of noise in the system Wink

Maybe this is the trace element of cyberpunk, the envisioning of negative and/or criminal uses of technology?

actually yeah random flashmob smashing windows is a kind of civil disobedience I could almost get behind in protest to that prediction system.
