Does anyone want to claim a book to review? the plan at the moment is to skirt around the edges of the obvious books and get some practice in on some less well known titles.
So I claim:
Vurt Jeff Noon
Gravitys Rainbow T Pynchon
Unless anyone objects.
Anything else you'd like me to have a go at?

No objections at all. Claim noted.
As for what you'd like to have a go at, whatever tweaks your fancy. Although I would like to see a review of a Pat Cadigan novel at some point.

I've only read 2 of her novels (fools and Synners) and that was 10 years ago. I don't really remember a huge amount about them. But I'll try.

Thing is, I'm really not sure what the hell I'm doing. So the Vurt review is up on the front page. By mistake.
Another contender for review would be HardWired and Voice of the Whirlwind by walter Jon Williams.
Are you planning to do any reviews?

Hi David, No harm done. I went ahead and spiffed this up a bit. We still need a rating for the book (right next to the year option). If you get a chance, go in an edit this and rate the book.
the graphic I added is from another site - hopefully it will work till this evening (I'm heading out for work). I need to go in and edit that template to add some of the fields we want and stuff.
BTW, if you press "Save Draft" it doesn't go to the front page. Unfortunately, you can only do this once with that template - but it does show how the review will look right below yours. In terms of additional ones, perhaps the way to do it is to copy an existing one that has the bar and opening graphic code and stuff, and just past the relevant parts into the new review.

Just stumbled across this site and was pleased to find others who recognize that the cyberpunk genre is still alive, well and relevant.
I was wondering if someone might care to review a science fiction ebook of mine which fits into this category? DREAMBOX JUNKIES is a near-future satire heavily influenced by the work of Philip K. Dick. Although it's not yet available in paperback, the ebook version can be bought at:
www.fictionwise.com/ebooks/eBook21619.htm
A free review copy can be provided.

Welcome to cyberpunkreview, Dr. Smile
Here's the description for any of those interested:
| Quote: | | the Near Future: A dizzy world of Mindseye implants, Maternosuppressor pills, Erotoroutines, Psychotrichology and notorious, vicious virospooks such as Sick Nick. And the Dreambox, the ultimate in electronic entertainment, harnessing the power of the human psyche to transport you to your personal paradise. As the morphomercials proclaim: the Only Limitation Is Your Own Imagination. For a hard-headed career woman like Sesha Roffey, all this lying around dreaming your life away is strictly for losers and nerds. And for a struggling young mother like Ruth Deitch, hooking up and tripping is hardly an option. Ruth's boyfriend, though, is hopelessly addicted. Except that Paulie Rayle is no ordinary dreambox junkie: he aims to dream into being a whole new reality--kinder, gentler and more real than this one. But like no-nonsense Sesha and down-to-earth Ruth, Paulie is in for some horrible shocks. |
This definitely sounds interesting. And I truly hope we can get this reviewed. At this time, we only have one person doing book reviews - hopefully I can cajole some others into doing so.

Can anyone recommend a cyberpunk book with the following themes:
-Space Weapons (orbital particle-beam satellites, velocity bombardment, etc)
-Orbital cities / underwater cities / lunar cities
-cyberpunk theme (classical sense, like neuromancer)
I'm thinking of reading the diamond age, as you can see its a postcyberpunk so naturally I have a very negative disposition. Especially since the last post-cyberpunk I read, Technogenesis didn't exactly impresse me with its pro-goverment and support the decadent & ultra-hedonistic society.
Any suggestions?

the Diamond Age is terrific (I would mention the part about post-cyberpunk being meaningless but I promised I wouldn't ). Give it a go, and Snow Crash as well.

Thanks! That sounds really cool, I checked out the website and it seems promising, thangs again! BTW, is it possible to buy this book in paperback or is this an e-book?

Will do, I just couldn't find it at the used book store near my house, but I got William Gibson's "Burning Chrome" .By the review of the short stories it sounds good, once I get this book out of the way, I'll look into looking more 'closely' around the different used book stores around town.

As far as I know it was released on paper ags ago (literaly in that it may have come out before the internet age itself took off) and was then released by the author as freeware over the net. I have no idea whether you can buy a paperback in the shops but I'm sure one was printed at some point.
It's just occured to me that Metrophage (Kadrey) is also out on the net somewhere. Note that these are legal downloads. Illegal downloads are out there (and especially cyberpunk) but I take no responsibility for you seeking them out..

I'd like to grab at doing a review of Katherine Hayles works, as well as some of the better known cyberpunk fiction texts unless Sfam or someone more established would rather do them.

Obviously it's not my site and I have no say here but as the guy who's done the 2 novel reviews on the site so far I say "go right ahead". I've not been sure whether anyone was going to try to "do" Gibsons work.
I take full responsibility for not doing more reviews, by the way. I should probably do some more but at the moment I'm finishing reading the very unCyberpunk "A suitable boy". Maybe, when I've done that, I will reread Synners and Hardwired and offer up reviews of those (unless you get to them first) along with my review of GR (a tough novel to say anything really substantial about).
