Everyone knows the recipe for napalm, it's been up since forever. Same for Molotovs.

Weapons - Blades

"Blades don't need reloading" - the Zombie Survival Guide

Knives and daggers
Everyone should have and carry a good knife. Knives are one of the most useful tools humans have ever made, and you should definitely get one.
Cold Steel makes high quality knives and blades for reasonable prices, including the FGX Black Cat, a plastic knife of the type used by the FBI. It is unknown whether or not the version for sale is 100% plastic, so don't go taking it into any airports.
When buying a knife, go for a folder. These are compact and easy to carry. Get a model with a thumb stud, and practice using it to flick out the blade. After a couple days it should be as quick as a switchblade. Get something that has some serrations on it for utility. Look for low-friction finishes like Teflon or Titanium Nitride.
Recently, a Russian man has crafted a very short knife of synthetic Sapphire with a bone handle. This would be completely invisible to metal detectors, and would cut anything except diamond. If you have the means, get a sapphire knife.

Hatchets
Hatchets can be truly devastating in close combat. Lightweight designs are frighteningly quick. If you want something tacticool, look for "Trench hawks" or "Vietnam tomahawks". If you're going the old-school route, make sure your "battle ready" reproductions aren't stainless steel (this might shatter).

Swords
These days, swords are almost completely impractical as weapons. I dunno, maybe you're a hot-rodded street samurai who wants a bit of style, maybe you're a motorcycle ganger, whatever.
What you want for a combat sword is a blade made from high-carbon steel, not stainless. There are better swords than the Katana, just not for as many things. Honestly, just do the research.

You can also make homemade Napalm (not giving out recipe)

All you need is a metal bucket, some gasoline, and lots of styrofoam, as well as something to stir with. Fill the bucket halfway up with gasoline, and dissolve as much styrofoam as possible in the gassoline. When it is impossible to disolve more styrofoam, the napalm is finished.

Not the recipe I have, Never heard of using Styrofoam.

Really? That's the most common one. I forget what the other one was...

Orange juice? No... seriously. Or maybe that's from Fight Club.

That's the old M1 recipe. the newer one is Napalm-B, which is 50% polystyrene, 25% Benzene, and 25% gasoline.

There really isn't a better design than the Japanese Katana, so you probably won't want to bother with anything else.

I'd argue that a machete is more practical, being less fragile, more widely available (vs authentic katanas), more compact and more energy efficient. They also take less training to wield properly; without bushido training you'll end up shattering your katana the first time someone ducks and you hit a streetlight.

Katanas are cooler true, be we don't really live in an age where they impress anyone on the street anymore.

Yeah, machetes are good but they aren't really swords persay. Most people classify them as a tool.

In trying to make this an all-purpose guide and not another firearm-related discussion:

the Net is Vast and Infinite

Sure, you've got the hot hardware, a few proxies to bounce off from, and even a few good pieces of custom microcode. But you have to have the skills. How to survive in the hyper-fast, supra-aerodynamic world of the net? How to get your stuff done?

- Search what you need, find what you search
Of course, if you're here you most likely wanted to find specific information about cyberpunk survival. Or maybe you just wandered here by mistake, clicking link after link after link... but let's put that on your web-addiction.
Everyone nowadays knows how to use a damn search engine. But cyberpunks regularly attain a higher state of search-fu to be able to keep up.
In ancient myths, it was held that power over a spirit or a magician was achieved by knowing its real name. If a sorcerer knew the real name of another, the weakest spell could mean his end. Now. I know you dismiss this stuff as being fantasy already, and so do I, but there is an important lesson to learn: if you don’t know the real name of the thing you’re looking for, you may as well stop looking for it right there. To complicate things even more, the “real name” of something on the web may not even be the “real name” of the same thing in the meatspace.
For persons, Nicknames are really common. If you don’t know the nickname of someone, all you’ll find is official stuff and so-called “social networking” profiles. If you ONLY have his/her nickname, you may stumble upon darker activities, or on the other hand, his/her MMORPG character and nothing else. the best would be knowing and researching both the meatspace name and the one (or many) nickname that person bears in the situations that interest you.
For ideas or objects, it’s important to use the concept of “buzzwords” to your advantage. Sure, the term “lolcat” is inherently stupid, but if it’s what everyone uses on the web, it’s what you should be searching for in your favourite search engine in order to find funny pictures of cats. Just like for people, you could have a hard time finding an object if you don’t know it’s “web name”, or “buzzword”.

Here is a hint that goes hand-in-hand with the two preceding paragraphs: don’t type in a too long string of words, unless you know it’s gonna be included word for word in the text. Also don’t ask a question to a search engine unless you’re thinking someone already asked it in a forum or the like. It’s not gonna answer you, and someone, somewhere is gonna laugh at you. Use keyword semantics.

- Where to search
Google and other mainstream search engines are a good place to get non-specific info. With the advent of blogging, though, poorly-chosen keywords may end up drawing up plenty of generic, redundant and uninformative articles that circle-link to each other.
So, if you’ve got anything remotely obscure to look for, I’d suggest gathering, maintaining and using your own bank of resource sites, which can be used to narrow down your searches. This can include but is not limited to:
- Web 2.0 encyclopaedias. Wikipedia comes to mind, but don’t forget you can get specific wikis for many topics.
- A torrent tracker site, preferably one that compiles results from many (torrents.to comes to mind).
- Independent news sites. If you stumble upon a mass-media article that got your attention, you better double-check it on those.
- A streaming-video link site.
- Blogs on topics you like.
- Whistleblower leaks sites
the keyword here is specialization. You know yourself, you know what you usually search for. Gather enough source sites to satisfy your likes, because searching within them is a lot faster than starting from google. Also remember to use your browser’s search function. You don’t have time to read whole pages.
Once you have your sites, GET MORE. Redundancy here is encouraged. A torrent or independent news site can get taken down. You need another one to fall back to before even asking yourself what has happened to it.

Sometimes a quick glance at potential results can help you narrow down your search:
- If you want help to solve a problem doing something that should work but doesn't, you want a forum.

- If you want corporate or government public info, you’re looking for a web site with plenty of eye-candy. Keep in mind that text on flash "pages" can’t be gathered by search bots, so try to use the name of the organization and work your way from the main page.

- If you know what you are looking for may be illegal in your country, don’t hesitate to click on links to pages in a foreign language. Often, those Russian or Asian sites have a convenient English-language link to the exact piece of warez you’re looking for.

- Look at the URL before clicking a link. Some page names may be misleading, or you could discover a site you’ve already visited without even having to visit it again. Clicks saved add up to minutes saved. And you have no idea how much information you can find in a minute.

That’s all for me today, kids. Coming up in the next few days: how to protect yourself from malware, and how to overcome information overload.

Dmitri What are we gearing up for? a ShadowRun? or just going to the market? I don't want to wear 60lbs of gear to go to McDonald's (didn't do it in Iraq don't want to do it here). How bad/good is this hypothetical world?

I'm guessing it's a day-to-day survival guide. we're not trying to bring down the corrupt system or anything, just trying to avoid getting our organs harvested this week.

the survival guide is similar in usage to any survival guide, namely Steal This Book. For example, you would use the info in the book on how to get free food in everyday situations, but not the info in the book on how to make molotov cocktails. I'm expecting most cyberpunks to have the processing power to figure out what to use when and where.

Links - useful information
Need a recipe for a plastic explosive? How about Arcadian 8-Bean Chili? These links are goldmines of practical information.

http://www.freeinfosociety.com/
contains a wide variety of published material in PDF format, including fiction and non-fiction.

http://www.textfiles.com/directory.html
An archive of various files written in "8+3" format from the 1980s and 90s. While most of the hacking and tech info is out of date, a great deal of the rest is still incredibly useful. Also includes ASCII art.

Add moar.

Transportation - Foot
You're going to want to get around in the sprawl, but whether you're a cheap bastard or you don't have a vehicle available for whatever reason, you always have your feet.
Some time around the turn of the millennium, French urban youth invented Parkour when they weren't busy rioting about the rage du jour. Parkour is the sport/art/discipline of fluid human motion in an urban environment, and is quite possibly the fastest way to get around on foot in a city.
It doesn't take much to do Parkour other than being in good shape, practice, and creatively analyzing your surroundings to find out the fastest way through them. Watch videos of it on the net to get inspiration and ideas.
