Having terrabytes of harddrive space is nothing special

I'm willing to bet that a lot of it is due to lazyness.
Keeping copies, installing a game and keeping the ISO even though you don't need it, decompressing a file and keeping both the compressed version and the full one... we all do it. It's when you're lacking space that you suddenly become obsessed with cleaning. If you got enough money to buy another drive, this can go on forever.
the only time I lost a hard drive a few years ago, I only lost 2 things I didn't wanna lose: My first (unfinished) attempt at a starcraft map, and nudies of a girl I knew. Sometimes I find myself desperately clicking through my mountain of files to find them again even though I know they aren't there and have never been. _________________ Knowledge is power.

Well I want to have something I can carry around if I go somewhere, like to a friend's place.. not gonna be streaming movies from home in that situation! I've already got an old Xbox with a 500gig drive and it's full of movies.. really practical! Just that now I want to set up a little and get 1080p stuff... so I'm gonna need a ridiculous amount of space..

the SSD is the part where you're pushing it.
Just get a small, fast HDD, no? My hard drives are nothing special but I can run an OS and pull 2 movies at a time from one. You're paying through the nose for unnoticeable performance gains (though one advantage could be quick boot-up). _________________ Knowledge is power.

yeah but you don't need that amount of ram.....
Also KBlack it's real content. I'm religious about deleting compressed files once I've unpacked.
I've started actually clearing out space by going through the movies/tv series/anime/music/pictures and deleting stuff I never will want to use again.
I do have a shit load of games actually installed though, even though I don't play them. Uninstalling all these would clear up a bunch of space but then I'd have to go through the hassle of redownloading/installing _________________ I analyse and I verify and I quantify enough

I remember the first couple times it brought on some quick cold sweats when a hard drive crashed or the OS hosed itself before there was any real data recovery that I knew of. Now I'm on the other end of it most of the time for my work and I'm the harbinger of death to other people telling them they lost their stuff. I never feel bad anymore because there are always ways to backup data.
Personally now that amazon is offering unlimited cloud storage for music I just spent a week uploading half my music to their service. Other things like pictures, personal videos, documents & projects are still stored on external drives for now. I'll probably find a cloud storage for that as well. I don't back up downloaded videos, tv and movies. I just don't see a point to spend my $ on the storage for stuff that's on netflix or other media I pay for eventually. My only drive with 1TB or over is the time capsule that does the auto backups for the macbooks in the house. I don't treat the time capsule as a real backup though since it's one drive. It's more of a oh crap I didn't mean to delete that, let me rewind that back.

If I had lost my files, I would feel relief rather than grief. I keep a lot of unnecessary things that I should throw away, but something stops me from doing this. Sources are another matter, but these are backuped daily.
