Stormy, you mentioned you might sell the CF-72. How's the battery life on it, and how much were you thinking of selling it for? Also, is it Win7 capable? How about linux?

Need more info plz. Smile

I got two 2nd-hand batteries with it. They only work 30 minutes and the other one works only 45 minutes. Linux can be installed. the machine has a speed of 1,8 Ghz or so. I dont know about Win 7, but now it is running Windows XP very well.

the CF-72 also has 768 megabyte DDR ram (256 onboard + 512 MB slotted in).

Concerning the price i'm gonna ask. Dont know yet. Anyhow a bit more as the 80$ i got it for. I think about 150-175 $ or so.

Oh, and my 3rd CF-28 is comming next week. the MK2 version, 800Mhz without touchscreen and no wireless.

Here is the spec-sheet of my CF-72.

ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/toughbook/specsheets/TB-72_ss.pdf

It is almost the same thing, except for the old GPS antenna on the right side. My one doesnt have the antenna.

Drat. Battery run-life that short is a deal-breaker for me. Keep me posted when you find a good mobile model. Perhaps the CF-26 has a better battery life?

Or you could give me the link to your ToughBook source. Very Happy

Oh, but don't be mistaken.

IF you have a 100% working battery, then the battery will work at least 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

the two batteries that were included , when i bought the CF-72 second hand, are of course also 2nd hand.

Anyhow, here is the webpage with most (if not all) Panasonic Toughbook model specsheets.

A nice read to get know-how what these beasts have inside their body.

If somebody wants to buy an Itronix Go-Book II or III,

this German company sells them dirt-cheap, starting from 79 euros.

It seems that all the Itronix laptops under 159 have a bad battery, and/or a not-working DVD-drive.

anyhow, replacing a slimline DVD-drive is not difficult,

I myselve, only buy laptops where i can get batteries for sure. A laptop without a working battery is like a degraded desktop-replacement.

It's old and surplus. Govt is happy to offload "old" computers for free as opposed to recycling them. Or maybe they ware sold for pennies as one huge lot.

Another reason for going with Thinkpads. Seems one can get just about any spare part for them even today.

Even 3.5 hours isn't what I'm used to. I suppose I'll have to wait for Panasonic to get their act together and make a netbook version. My netbook got 10 hrs with a fresh battery.

Yeah man. What happened to the days of yore when you could get a small scale laptop/palmtop that would take a couple of AA's and last? Manufacturers of the future should start looking at devices like the "Psion 5MX/Ericsson MC218" for inspiration.

Well the pandra handheld claims somewhere around 14 hours battery life.

Helps to be ARM based.

Edit: anyways, the real battery killer these days are wireless networking and screens.

Sound eats wattage too. My netbook has a disable wifi capability, and I mute the sound also for maximum battery life (granted, I disable wifi when I don't need it).

I also dim the display when possible.

I discovered this sexy beauty today. Dell's making MIL-SPEC laptops now:
http://www.dell.com/us/dfb/p/latitude-e6400-xfr/pd

You have to check the specs on that thing. Totally hawt hardware. Thumbs Up
Looks like some composite kevlar exterior? Backlit keyboard? Auxiliary battery? I'd be likely broke if I added all the features I wanted... Sad
